In celebration of the wonderful seniors in our community, and as a fundraiser for Project Literacy, we produced an original radio play. For Love and Apples was performed and recorded live on March 27th, 2022 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
For Love and Apples was born from a desire to celebrate older generations and literacy in a memorable way. Radio relies solely on spoken words and music. It is the last public medium of spoken literacy. For Love and Apples pays tribute to the golden age of radio, when families and friends leaned forward to listen to stories coming over the air.
Written by Paul Zuurbier (with support from Lee Karvonen) and Directed by Neal Facey, this romantic comedy-drama takes place in Kelowna both in the present and in the 1930s. The play follows the recent engagement of three couples who are connected through time and circumstance. The play features the Okanagan apple industry, as it was in the early half of the last century, while recognizing the indegenous hesitage of the region.
Thank you to everyone who provided a donation, helped support the play and attended this unique performance!
