MEDIA RELEASE: PROJECT LITERACY BOARD READY TO GET TO WORK ON STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

Project Literacy Kelowna Society is excited to announce the release of its 2016-17 Strategic Plan. This ambitious strategy builds upon thirty years of successful operations as a local charity and positions the society as a leader in local literacy support services, now and well into the future.

The strategic planning process which started in early June, resulted in the board and staff working collectively to define three primary strategic priorities and two secondary strategic priorities. “This strategic planning process was an opportunity for board and staff to talk about challenges and opportunities together.” says Executive Director, Christine McWillis. “In the end, I think we were able to develop a plan that is reflective of the current environment and considers the vision of everyone who is going to be called upon to implement it.”

Residents of the Central Okanagan area can expect to see progress on the three primary strategic priorities which include:

  • marketing and brand development;
  • optimizing internal operations; and
  • increasing and diversifying funding sources.

Secondary strategic priorities include:

  • program development and new program delivery
  • enhancing partnerships and improving donor relationships.

“The Project Literacy board and staff have collaborated to put forth a plan for the long-term success of our organization,” says Board President Fern Carr.  “We are eager to implement the strategies which will allow us to achieve these goals.”

Project Literacy Kelowna Society is the first incorporated literacy organization in British Columbia. Annually, the volunteer tutors at Project Literacy work with more than 400 people to improve their literacy skills so that learners can reach their full potential at work, home or in the community.
