Description:

Project Literacy Kelowna Society is working in partnership with the Launch Community Development Foundation to impact the well-being of our community through the offering of various financial literacy programs.

The programs utilize curriculum provided through Momentum (http://www.momentum.org/programs/money).   Each Program Educator working with this program is provided with mandatory training in this curriculum. Training is expected to be delivered in March 2017, successful completion of the training course is required.  In receiving the training each volunteer educator is required to commit to facilitating a minimum of two programs within a two year duration.

Volunteers will be supported by Project Literacy and Launch Kelowna including administrative support, program materials and supplies, screening of applicants to the appropriate programs and advice and guidance when required. To ensure every volunteer is supported in their work, group program educators will work directly with Launch Kelowna while one-to-one program educators will work with Project Literacy. Combined training and information sharing with all program educators will be available.

Educators who volunteer their time with the program are people who are committed to helping learners develop a fuller understanding of financial literacy, thereby enabling the learner to manage their money with confidence.  It is helpful for volunteer educators to have a background in money matters, e.g. banking, finance, credit counselling, but this element is not a necessity.  Individuals who share a concern for seeing learners move forward in their lives with knowledge, confidence and improved habits with money are welcome.  Volunteer educators enjoy success with their learners when they combine compassion, healthy boundaries, and an excitement to teach.
